Crumpled and coffee stained, one of my more mature students apologetically hands over a worksheet in his lesson today.
There’s absolutely no need to apologise – I am so, so pleased that the worksheet has seen daylight since the last lesson.
As the piece is played it is performed beautifully.
There seems to be an inverse relationship between the condition of the music sheet and condition of the musical performance.
As the sheets get more dog eared and crumpled, the student’s ability and performance becomes more polished.
Perhaps I’m overthinking it.
I sit back and enjoy of the impeccable walking bass line performance and hope more worksheets come back crumpled and coffee stained next week.
